Proven, ready-to-deploy climate actions that “multi-solve”.
Private Sector
The private sector plays a unique and influential role in climate action that is distinct and complementary to government approaches. Businesses can drive down GTHA emissions and support the transition to a low-carbon economy by:
- Ensuring economic competitiveness and relevance: aligning with climate and innovation-oriented markets, investors and consumers.
- Accelerating market development: creating demand for new technologies, bringing down costs, and influencing supply chains.
- Demonstrating feasibility: moving innovation into implementation and scale-up, generating insights that support better policy and regulatory design.
- Leveraging funds: seizing on investment opportunities and leveraging public dollars to support innovation.
Recommendations for GTHA corporate and industry stakeholders:
Make your transport and buildings efficient and electric where possible.
Retrofitting buildings, incorporating EVs into fleets, and facilitating employees’ use of active transportation and transit will directly reduce corporate emissions and the to largest sources of emissions in the GTHA and offers many other economic and social benefits.
Generate your own clean power.
The cost of solar, geothermal and energy storage technologies have plummeted, product availability and market readiness is high, and the policy environment is favourable for mid-sized systems and corporate power purchase agreements.
Decarbonize your industrial processes.
Consider energy efficiency your ‘first fuel’ and tap into incentives, investment tax credits and technical support programs. Switch to low-carbon energy sources like electricity or waste heat.
Participate in policy development.
Get involved in government consultations and advocate for fair policies that reduce carbon and encourage leadership in your industry.
Engage your supply chain and networks to support decarbonization.
Engage your supplier network to advance low-carbon approaches, deepen partnerships, find innovations, and improve cost-saving efficiencies. If you and/or your suppliers are encountering regulatory barriers at the municipal, provincial, or federal level we want to hear from you. E-mail policy@taf.ca
